The new group will unify competition and consumer protection efforts across agency offices and collaborate with federal partners.
Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairman Andrew Ferguson announced the formation of a Healthcare Task Force to coordinate enforcement and policy work across healthcare markets. The task force will draw members from the Bureau of Competition, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Bureau of Economics, Office of Policy Planning, and Office of Technology, with responsibilities including identifying priority investigations, coordinating strategies, and monitoring emerging issues. The initiative also seeks collaboration with other federal partners, including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The chairman’s memo explained that the task force will focus on addressing competition concerns, consumer protection issues, and market practices affecting healthcare access, pricing, and transparency. The directive highlights prior enforcement actions involving mergers, insurance marketing practices, and pharmaceutical competition, and states that the new structure is intended to improve coordination across the agency. The group will meet regularly, share information across offices, and report to leadership on ongoing healthcare-related enforcement and advocacy efforts.
